As many as 50 personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) have been quarantined at the BSF Academy in Tekanpur city of Gwalior district in Madhya Pradesh, after an officer at the academy tested positive for the novel coronavirus. As of March 29, the state of Madhya Pradesh has reported 34 confirmed cases of Covid-19, including two casualties.

The Additional Director General (ADG) and the Inspector General (IG), both directors of the BSF Academy were present at a meeting along with other officers which was also attended by the officer who tested positive. Inputs suggest that commanders of all wings/units were also part of the same meeting. The objective of this meeting was to discuss the preparedness of quarantine centres by the BSF.

Aged 57, this BSF jawan is believed to have contracted Covid-19 from his wife who has a travel history to the United Kingdom. The second-in-command rank officer is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital. However, it has been reported that the jawan came in contact with at least two dozen BSF jawans who have now been ordered to self-quarantine.

It was only on Saturday that an officer with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) also tested positive for Covid-19 at the Mumbai International airport.
